INI CET Topper’s Preparation Strategy and Study Plan: Dr. Shashwat Rank 2 in INI-CET May 2025

Getting Rank 2 in INI-CET is a huge achievement. It takes focus, consistency, and the right mindset. In this conversation, Dr. Praveen Tripathi talks to the Dr. Shashwat, who secured Rank 2 in INI-CET May 2025, about his study plan, challenges, and preparation journey.

Balancing Internship and Study

He shared that in the beginning, when postings were lighter, he made sure to study every day — whether by watching videos, solving questions, or revising notes. His goal was to do something daily and keep the flow going.

Later, during hectic postings and 12-hour emergency duties, it was difficult to study every day. On such days, he focused on resting well and used off-days or free hours after night duties to study. Even during his medical and surgical postings, he made sure not to lose touch with his subjects.

Dealing with Tiredness and Distractions

When asked about how he handled tiredness and the feeling of missing out while others were relaxing, he said that the right company matters a lot. Being around focused friends helps you stay motivated and disciplined. According to him, your peer group makes a big difference during preparation.

Strong Basics from MBBS Days

He explained that INI-CET focuses a lot on first and second-year subjects. During lockdown, he had studied standard textbooks thoroughly without coaching, which helped him later.

He revised these subjects again during the internship. For clinical subjects, he relied on notes because reading big books like Harrison or Bailey was difficult during his internship. Books like Robbins for pathology were very helpful as they supported multiple subjects like medicine and pediatrics.

Using Notes and Review Books

He used GRG sir’s notes and studied psychiatry from Dr. Praveen Tripathi’s review book. He found these notes and books very helpful for quick revision, even during the internship and before exams.

Exam Day and Strategy
  • He got 163 questions correct and achieved Rank 2.
  • He expected around 150–165 correct answers.
  • He said this year’s exam tested concepts deeply, and surface-level studying didn’t help. Understanding the basics was the key.
Handling Stress Before the Exam

He shared that even toppers have tough days. A few days before the exam, he felt anxious and tired of studying. He just wanted the exam day to come quickly. He said that feeling anxious is normal and happens to everyone — what matters is staying consistent despite those thoughts.

Support from Family

He also talked about how much his parents supported him. Staying at home throughout MBBS helped him stay calm and focused. His parents were always there for him, especially during the final days before the exam.

The Role of PYQs
  • He strongly emphasised the importance of previous year questions (PYQs).
  • According to him, around 95% of the INI-CET paper was directly or indirectly based on previous topics.
  • Some questions were repeated, while others tested similar concepts.
  • He advised not to delay PYQs till the end because they form the base of the exam and help understand the pattern.
Advice for Aspirants

His advice to future aspirants was simple:

  • Be consistent.
  • Focus on weak areas.
  • Practice PYQs regularly.
  • Build strong basics using standard books.
  • Closer to the exam, revise with concise notes.

He believes simple and steady preparation always gives the best results.

Conclusion

This journey shows that success in INI-CET is not about shortcuts but about consistent hard work and a clear understanding. Strong basics, regular revision, and practice with PYQs can help anyone aim for top ranks.

As Dr. Praveen said, “Keep your foundation strong, focus on standard books, and revise smartly.” A great example of how dedication and the right mindset lead to success.
