How to Deal with Exam Pressure and Mental Health During NEET PG Preparation With Dr. Kartik

Preparing for NEET PG is not just an academic challenge—it’s a mental and emotional journey that tests every bit of your patience and resilience. To guide aspirants through this phase, Dr. Kartik, who recently secured an impressive All India Rank of 765, shares his insights on tackling exam stress, maintaining mental health, and preparing effectively.

Meet Dr. Kartik

Dr. Kartik completed his MBBS from GMC Haldwani (batch of 2018). During his internship attempt, he secured a rank of 9041, but he wasn’t satisfied. Determined to do better, he gave up his seat and began preparing again in mid-February—eventually achieving a top rank in his next attempt.

When asked what inspired him to pursue medicine, he said,

“It’s the depth that medicine offers. You can study as much as you want, and it gives you the freedom to choose your own direction. That’s what fascinated me about this field.”

The Mental Health Challenge

According to Dr. Kartik, mental health is one of the most overlooked aspects of NEET PG preparation.

“Throughout this journey, mental health has been my biggest challenge. I’ve faced a lot of ups and downs emotionally, but with the right mindset and the right people around you, it’s possible to overcome them.”

He emphasised that acknowledging stress and seeking help—be it through therapy, mentors, or supportive peers—can make a huge difference.

How to Handle Exam-Day Pressure

Dr. Kartik believes that exam pressure doesn’t just show up on the final day—it builds up throughout your preparation. His advice is simple yet powerful:

“Every test you appear for should be treated like a real exam. For those three hours, give it your 100%. Don’t get distracted, don’t multitask. Train your mind to stay where you are.”

He practices mindfulness and deep breathing—techniques that helped him calm down and stay focused.

“Wherever you are, be fully present. If you’re sitting in front of your computer, don’t let your mind wander. Panic comes from scattered thoughts.”

Dr. Kartik’s Top 3 Tips for NEET PG Aspirants
  1. Take It Easy
“It’s just an exam, not your entire life. Don’t tie your self-worth to a rank. You have an identity beyond your scores.”
  2. Plan Everything
“Planning was the backbone of my preparation. I made a proper schedule—how much time to give to each subject, when to revise, and what to prioritize.”
  3. Trust Your Sources
“Don’t keep switching study materials. Stick to one source and study it thoroughly. Complete trust in your material is key.”
His Experience with Cerebellum Academy

Dr. Kartik had a memorable journey with Cerebellum Academy.

“I used to follow Dr. Zainab ma’am during my internship—she’s definitely my favourite faculty! Later, I explored more content like the E&Ds, which are wonderfully curated. The notes and lectures from Cerebellum helped me stay organised and confident.”

Final Words

Dr. Kartik’s story is a reminder that success in NEET PG isn’t just about long hours of study—it’s about consistency, clarity, and mental balance. His practical approach to handling stress and staying focused is something every aspirant can learn from.

“Plan well, stay calm, trust your process—and remember, it’s an exam, not your life.”
