Dr. Ilakkia

By Divine Intervention, I Found Cerebellum: How Dr. Ilakkia Jumped from 71K to 1.5K in NEET PG

Hello friends, with me is Dr. Ilakya Devi, who has managed to score 1580, a good rank in NEET PG. Congratulations Dr. Ilakya Devi, to you and your parents. Thank you, sir, thank you so much, sir.

So this was your first attempt?
No, sir, this is actually my second attempt. I gave my first attempt right after my internship, which is NEET PG 2024, sir.

What was the rank?
My rank in that exam was 71,414, sir.

Okay, 71,000 to make it 1580. What exactly do you do? How was your journey of preparation? Please go into detail because many students would like to replicate what you have done.

Yes sir. So I belong to the batch of 2018 to 2024. I was under a huge misconception that just preparing for your university exams, which are theory-based exams, would help me in cracking an objective-based exam like NEET PG and INICET. But only when I gave my first NEET PG 202, and before that, I was not even exposed to any sort of grant test, I realised that this NEET PG 2024, which is the objective-based exam, is altogether a different ballgame than what we prepare for our university exams.

So, only from June 2024 was I able to start preparing for an entrance-based exam. To the students who are starting to prepare just now, I will say this is something completely doable if you are dedicating your time and effort and following the right plan with the right mindset, sir.

Were you able to attend the live mission classes, lap 2, lap 3 division sessions in Cerebellum?
Yes sir. Initially, I was not aware of Cerebellum’s live classes, marathons, tests, and discussions. By some divine intervention, I was exposed to the Cerebellum grand test like 6–8 months before the examination, and I was able to score pretty decent marks. The Cerebellum team contacted me, saying that if I would like to join, they would make an offer, and I was very happy that I did.

What I will say is like a big booster for what I scored today. I was struggling very much sir. I was stuck at the 120–130 range after studying all the basics, and when I initially joined Cerebellum, I was not able to score much because it was a new set of questions that I was exposed to. But as I went deeper and deeper and the discussions that you post after every exam, the revision classes, the marathon classes—everything helped me in a huge, huge way, sir.

What is the branch Dr. Ilakeya Devi is looking for?
Sir, I am looking for Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Wow, wonderful. You will definitely get it, I think in the college of your choice as well.

Preparing for a second attempt comes with its own baggage. Did you face any such problem while preparing?
Yes sir. Initially, while I started preparing for NEET PG, I didn’t know where to start, which subject to start with, and how much importance to give to one particular subject. During those initial 5 or 6 months, my seniors guided me on where to start, who to follow and how to approach the exam.

Once I started attending the live classes, and the Cerebellum faculty used to post videos on YouTube on how to go further when you are stuck, that actually helped me a lot—like how many questions to attempt. I remember Dr Zainab ma’am telling in a class, if you are stuck between 120 to 130, where you are lagging, 130 to 140, where you are lagging, 140 and above, where you are lagging—that was an eye-opener for me.

I was under the wrong conception that I had to revise more and more in order to get more marks. But only ma’am told us that it is not about revising and finishing a subject in a stipulated time, it’s about how much you practice, how much you do wrong, how much you analyse the wrong questions and then not repeat the same wrong questions again.

Even one month before, I was watching your video on how to approach a GT and how to analyse it on the same day, sir. That all hugely helped me because practising around 200–250 questions per day after 6–7 months into your journey will help a lot in improving one’s rank, sir.

From where have you done Medical MBBS?
Sir, I did my undergraduate studies at Velammal Medical College and Hospital Research Institute, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

That I could figure out if I’m not wrong, Ilakia means literature or literary something, is it?
Yes, sir, yes, sir.

Okay, wow, that’s a very lovely name, must have been given by your mother?
That’s amazing. Thank you so much, Dr Ilakya Devi. I think many students are going to watch this interview, and they will realise how good course correction during preparation can be. Listening to you makes us very proud that you overcame all these difficulties, handled challenges yourself and managed to score such a good rank.

Heartiest congratulations once again from Team Cerebellum.

Thank you, sir. Actually, a huge, huge gratitude to all the faculties, especially Dr. Zainab ma’am, Dr. Vivek Jain sir, Praveen Tripathi sir, Apurv sir, all your motivation videos actually kept me going even after the postponement of the exams, when a lot of people started giving up.

I used to watch all of your videos, the tests and discussions and your revision videos. Especially, PSM was a very difficult subject for me because I was not able to remember a lot of things. I was following a different faculty earlier, but when I started using Cerebellum, I didn’t go to any other source. I made notes from your revision videos, your test and the discussions themselves, sir, so thank you so much, sir.

Wow, great. And we’ll conclude the interview on a note—when you are doing your branch of choice in Gynae-Obs, try to utilise PSM, public health into that, and you’ll become an even bigger success.
