Every year, when the NEET PG notification comes out, the first wave of questions students ask is the same:
“Am I even eligible to write the NEET PG exam?”
“My internship ends in June—will that be accepted?”
“What if I’m already doing a PG?”
Who can apply for NEET PG 2026 if they studied MBBS in India?
To keep it very straightforward, you need three basic things:
1. Do you have an MBBS degree or at least the provisional pass certificate?
It must be recognised under the NMC Act, 2019 and the latest PG education regulations. If your degree isn’t recognised under these rules, eligibility becomes an issue.
2. Do you have a registration certificate?
This could be permanent or provisional, issued by NMC/MCI or your State Medical Council. You need to show this on the exam day as well as during counselling.
3. When does your internship end?
This is the deal-breaker for many.
Your compulsory one-year internship must finish on or before the result declaration. And it will depend on the examination date and finalised on the basis of the NEET PG 2026 notification.
And one more thing: the internship dates you enter in the application form will be taken as final. So they must match your actual internship completion certificate, which you’ll need to show during admission.
What if I’m found ineligible after writing the exam?
NBEMS is very clear on this. If they figure out at any stage—before or after the exam—that your eligibility wasn’t valid, they can:
- stop you from appearing, or
- Cancel your NEET PG result altogether.
Yes, even if you’ve written the exam and scored brilliantly.
How important is my medical college’s recognition?
Students rarely ask this, but it matters.
“Is my MBBS college recognised by NMC before the official cut-off date?”
If the answer is yes, good.
If not, then for NEET PG 2026, such candidates won’t be considered eligible. Recognition received after the cut-off date doesn’t count for this exam cycle.
I am already doing a PG course somewhere. Can I still apply?
This is a tricky one.
Some universities in India don’t allow a student to take up another PG seat unless they have completed or formally left their previous PG.
NBEMS or the counselling body won’t interfere. They leave it entirely to the university’s rules.
So if you’re already in a PG program and planning to take NEET PG again, it’s better to check your target institute’s policy beforehand.
Does having an admit card mean I’m fully eligible?
No.
The admit card only means your application was accepted—not that your documents have been verified.
Your eligibility becomes final only after counselling and document checking.
What about Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG)? Are the rules different?
Yes, but the condition list is simple.
FMGs must have:
- Cleared FMGE according to the 2002 Screening Test Regulations
- Registration with NMC/MCI or a State Medical Council
- Internship completed on or before the last date as will be given in the notification.
All three points are compulsory.
Can foreign nationals appear for NEET PG?
They can, but with a few extra steps.
Some questions foreign nationals usually ask:
“Does my MBBS degree need to be approved by NMC?”
Yes, it must be considered equivalent to MBBS in India.
“Do I need security clearance?”
If the Ministry of Home Affairs requires it for your nationality, then yes, you must obtain that clearance before applying.
“Can I get temporary registration while doing PG in India?”
NMC may grant temporary registration for the duration of the course, but only if:
- you’re properly registered in your own country,
- The degree is recognised there, and
- Your home medical authority has issued a No-Objection Certificate.
This temporary license is valid only inside the college/hospital where you’re admitted.
Can I request NBEMS to consider me eligible if I don’t meet a requirement?
No. And they’ve emphasised this strongly.
No special requests, no emails asking for “consideration,” and no attempts to influence the process.
All communication must go through their portal, and even then, the rules won’t change.
Conclusion
The NEET PG eligibility important points are just these:
- recognised MBBS degree,
- valid registration,
- Internship completed before the date will be given in the 2026 notification.
- and proper screening/registration for FMGs or foreign nationals.
If you meet all of this, you’re good to go. If you don’t, no amount of emailing NBEMS will help—it’s better to sort out the documentation early so there’s no last-minute stress.
