There is very shocking news which is currently going on; altogether, there are 104 MBBS students out of 125 from the batch of 2024 at AIIMS Gorakhpur who have failed in their internal examination of the second semester.
Basically, this exam was conducted to check students’ preparations for their final examination. But unfortunately, the results were very disappointing, which left the whole administration in shock.
Reportedly, it indicates that most of the students have failed in basic subjects like Physiology and Biochemistry, 94 students failed in Physiology and 78 in Biochemistry, and the last 13 in Anatomy. Moreover, a total of 83 students have failed in at least two subjects. This is heartbreaking, also raising concerns about their future studies.

How Did It Happen?
Some students scored less than 25 out of 100 in Physiology, according to the reports, considered a clear sign of deep-rooted issues. The growling of a departmental dispute in the Physiology department surfaced as a possible factor affecting student morale and performance.
Why This Matters
- Academic approach: When final exams are coming closer, internal exams should be conducted to equip students for facing their final examinations, and if a large number, if students fail, then this is a reflection of a bad situation that our world has been plunged into.
- Withering Student Confidence: This tide of failures, this undesired deluge of such Distress has eaten into the fabric of their Psychological Identity, with most residents drowning in the ocean of Self-Doubt.
- Institutional Accountability: If AIIMS is to retain its status, academically and administratively, it must address itself.
Institution Responds With Rapid Intervention
- The overall administration acted very fast on this topic, while they are going to hold a re-exam overnight, pulling faculty members back from home to supervise.
- The internal reports indicate that students were sometimes given answers during this makeup exam to help them pass.
- The Reputed Executive Director, Dr. Vibha Dutta, and Media Cell Chair Dr. Aradhana Singh highlight that internal exams are distinct checkpoints to ensure precaution, not penal barriers.
What is going to happen next?
For AIIMS Gorakhpur:
- Tackle in-depth conflict, particularly in the Physiology department to ensure they can provide a supportive environment.
- The exam patterns have been clear from the above services.
- Provide remedial classes, mentoring and counseling to enable the student catch-up relatively quickly.
- For the Students:
- They can take advantage of re-exams and any special coaching sessions.
- Form study groups, seek help from mentors, and focus on mastering weaker subjects.
- Use this setback as a milestone, understanding the depth of the challenge to power stronger preparation.

Final Thoughts
This episode at AIIMS Gorakhpur is a clear call, not a resolution. As It reveals harsh gaps in overall preparation, mentorship, and institution-level support for residents. But it also shows the dynamic administrative response to it and a chance to reform the whole process while taking a re-examination.
With immense focused support, kindness, and structured remediation, this unstable chapter can serve as a turning point toward a stronger, more robust batch of future doctors.
